There was a time when I genuinely thought staying fashionable meant paying attention to everything.
Every new trend.
Every celebrity outfit.
Every “must-have” item that suddenly seemed to appear overnight.
That lasted until life became busier.
Somewhere between work, deadlines and trying to have something resembling a social life, I realised I wasn’t trying to build a runway wardrobe. I just wanted a few reliable accessories that made getting ready easier whenever summer plans came along.
Oddly enough, those turned out to be the ones I reached for most.
1. The Accessory That Changes More Than You’d Expect
It took me embarrassingly long to notice this one.
I’d see the same Apple Watch on different people and somehow each one looked completely different.
Eventually a friend showed me the range of Apple Watch straps available online and everything suddenly made sense.
The watches were mostly the same.
The bands weren’t.
After that, I couldn’t stop noticing them. Leather over coffee. Silicone after the gym. Stainless steel at dinner. The same watch somehow fitting completely different outfits without anybody buying a new one.
2. Sunglasses That Somehow End Up Going Everywhere
I own more pairs than I probably need.
Funny thing is, I keep wearing the same ones.
They live in the car, disappear into weekend bags, get borrowed by friends and somehow always find their way back again.
That’s usually a good sign.
3. A Cap You Don’t Have To Think About
Some accessories spend more time in the cupboard than they do outside.
A good cap tends to do the opposite.
Mine usually ends up stuffed into a backpack before beach trips, thrown onto the passenger seat after work or pulled on during those mornings when my hair has completely given up cooperating.
It never seems to stay where I left it.
4. The Bag That Quietly Earns Its Place
I used to swap bags depending on where I was going.
These days I mostly reach for one.
Big enough for the essentials.
Small enough not to become a burden halfway through the day.
Funny how often the practical choice quietly becomes your favourite.
5. Jewellery You Stop Taking Off
The pieces that last aren’t always the boldest ones.
They’re usually the ones that become part of your routine.
A simple chain. A favourite ring. Small hoops. A bracelet you forget you’re even wearing until somebody compliments it.
Those little pieces somehow end up being worn far more than the statement items you bought for special occasions.
6. The Summer Extras You End Up Packing Anyway
Every summer starts with good intentions.
“This time I’ll pack light.”
Then the little extras quietly find their way into the bag.
A cap.
Your sunglasses.
A reusable drink bottle.
A portable charger.
By the time you’re walking out the door, they’re all coming with you anyway.
Apparently some accessories make the packing list whether you plan for them or not.
