Forget about chocolates, roses, jewelry, and cheesy cards; nothing says “true love” like permanent body modification. Why write a poem for someone when you can get a tattoo of them of your body? It’s hard to find a gift that is more unique than that. I suppose that is what these celebs were thinking when they got inked. They wanted to show their partner how much they meant to them and thought getting a tattoo of their name or face was the best way to do it. Sadly, not all of the relationships have lasted, but at least they can always look at their tats and think of that happier times. (Unless they decide to get them lasered off.)

1. Iggy Azalea And A$AP Rocky
Once upon a time, Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky decided to take their relationship to the next level by getting matching tattoos. Iggy got a tattoo that read “Live Love A$AP” tattooed on her fingers, while A$AP got inked in a less Instagram-friendly spot. When they called it quits on the relationship, Iggy updated the tattoo by crossing A$ AP’s name out. Too bad she couldn’t change it to “Eat Pray Love.”
2. Mariah Carey And Nick Cannon
If the size of your tattoo shows how much you love someone, Nick Cannon definitely loved Mariah Carey. His tattoo of her name stretched across his entire back. Mariah opted for a more diminutive tattoo on her lower back of a butterfly with “Mrs. Cannon” written inside. I’m not saying her tiny tattoo was the reason their relationship ended, but it did, and Nick got a massive cross tattoo to cover his prominent Mariah one.
3. Cara Delevingne And Jourdan Dunn
Husband and wife tattoos are dubious, but friendship tattoos are even more questionable–even if you consider your BFF to be one of your “wifeys.” Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn got matching “DD” best friend tattoos. Nothing lasts forever like a friendship you have in your 20s with a fellow model you’re competing for work with, right?
4. Heidi Klum And Seal
When Heidi Klum wanted a tattoo for her then-husband, Seal, she wanted a big, visible one. She got his name written down her forearm. (Yes, that apparently does spell out “Seal.”) We all know how the story goes. They separate, and Heidi attempts to remove the tattoo because even though no one can read it, she doesn’t exactly want any ink to do with her ex-partner.
5. JWoww And Roger Matthews
JWoww and her fiancé, Roger Matthews, added another layer to their matching couple’s tattoos by getting new ink to commemorate the birth of their daughter, Meilani Alexandra. The footprint tattoos are very sweet, but I don’t know if Roger made the best choice by getting his new baby tattoo near his gun one.
6. Nas And Kelis
Nas showed his love for his then-wife, Kelis, by getting a massive tattoo of her down his forearm. It wasn’t just any old portrait of her. Nas chose a topless image of Kelis for his tattoo. Sadly, the marriage ended, so Nas had to cover part of it up. The boobs stayed, but the head was covered.
7. Adrienne Bailon And Rob Kardashian
When Adrienne Bailon was with Rob Kardashian, she got his name tattooed on her butt. You couldn’t get any more romantic than that. Sadly, the relationship didn’t work out, and Adrienne decided to remove the ink.

Even if Janet Jackson married Jermaine Dupri, this tattoo of her depicted as the Virgin Mary on his side still would still fall into the “WTF” category. It’s even worse now that she has married another dude, and he has to look at Janet’s tattooed face every morning when he gets dressed.
9. Kaley Cuoco And Ryan Sweeting
Kaley Cuoco and her husband Ryan Sweetling got matching tattoos of their wedding anniversary in Roman numerals. Ryan wasn’t content with just that, so he decided to get Kaley’s name written across his arm. He probably won’t be able to read his wedding date, but at least he’ll be able to read her name.
