Hayden Panettiere is as charming and refreshing as a cup of sorbet on a hot, sunny day, and yesterday she appeared on Good Morning America to talk about Nashville and motherhood, and she looked fresh and happy in a light pink suit and a big side braid that everyone is going to want to copy this summer.

Now that it’s officially spring and it’s warm out, and all the celebrities are wearing fringe again, it is definitely braid season. Braids keep your hair off your sweaty face and heck, they keep it from blowing around during fun summer activities, and they conceal the fact that the heat and humidity have turned you into a gross frizz monster. And Panettiere’s is an excellent example of a summer braid done right: It’s off to the side and pulled back, but it’s a little bit messy and casual.
Panettiere could wear this to the red carpet or to the beach, and it would look perfect in both situations. Also, it has a vaguely bohemian Coachella-ish vibe that is basically always in fashion when it’s hot out. (No one wants to run around with a Kate Middleton blow-out in August, not even Kate Middleton.)
While the hair is fantastic, she also deserves a round of applause for her pink-on-pink pantsuit that she wore on the air. It’s such a friendly color; she looks a little bit like a cartoon flamingo or, as my coworker Heather says, “a pink macaron.” But, you know, in a good way.

Today Panettiere posted a photo of herself looking like she’s prepped for a hurricane. She has a fluorescent jacket, a folding chair, a bright orange duffel bag, and what looks like an emergency toolkit. She looks nothing like herself.
“Totally incognito,” she captioned the photo.

Now, I’m not sure why Panettiere is dressed to join the cast of Deadliest Catch, but I am impressed by how she is managing to carry it all. I always thought someone like Hugh Jackman or The Rock would be the best celebrity to be on one’s side during a zombie invasion, but maybe it’s Hayden Panettiere after all. The Rock might be able to punch out a zombie, but Hayden and her disaster preparedness kit will keep you safe from the elements and completely disguised from the paparazzi at the same time.

Hayden Panettiere had her first baby, a tiny perfect daughter named Kaya, three months ago, and today she’s taking off on her first solo trip without the baby. It must be difficult to leave for the first time without one’s new baby, but Hayden Panettiere looks amazing. Her skin looks so good in her latest Instagram; she is basically a walking advertisement for the benefits of getting pregnant.

Hayden Panettiere has always had beautiful, clear, glowing skin, but this is crazy. I guess this is what it looks like when a 25-year-old TV star who already had perfect skin is running around with a postpartum “mommy glow.”

She also has a red manicure, a really cool looking shirt with anchors on it that half her Twitter feed seems to want to own, and tousled, perfect movie star hair that is also probably still benefiting from the side effects of pregnancy. Mine didn’t start falling out until four months after the baby was born.
Not that I think that is a no-makeup selfie, though. I’d guess she’s probably wearing foundation and maybe some blush and highlighter. But I own foundation and highlighter, and they don’t make me look like that.
