If you want a happy, healthy, good relationship, you need to have trust. As soon as trust is gone or even if it’s a little damaged, that good relationship can turn bad, and everyone involved in it will be unhappy.
Yet it is possible to rebuild trust, assuming that’s something you want – you certainly don’t have to do it, and if you know that a relationship is over, then you should split. However, if you do want to try again, trust is essential, and working on building that trust will be hard, but it is something you can do. Read on to find out more.
Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say
It’s so easy to destroy trust, and so many ways for it to happen. Examples can include having an affair, lying about money or work, keeping secrets, having an addiction that harms the family, and so on. All of the things mentioned above – and plenty more – are avoidable if the couple is open and honest with one another from the start. However, this is not always easy, and errors can be made.
That’s why, once those problems have been discovered, one of the best ways to rebuild trust is to ensure you are open and honest. Always say what you mean and always mean what you say, no matter what. Although this can be hard and sometimes uncomfortable, it also shows a deeper commitment and it ensures that any problems are dealt with early on, before they can do too much damage.
Allow Yourself To Be Vulnerable
People don’t usually like to be vulnerable; it makes them feel unsafe and unprotected. However, when we talk about vulnerability in a relationship, it ties in nicely with the point we made above about being open. Sometimes you – and your partner – will have to become vulnerable if you want to be trusted and to trust. The more vulnerable you are, the more they will be able to trust you, and vice versa, as they’ll know you are allowing them access into the deeper areas of your life.
This could mean telling them things you never thought you would tell anyone. Perhaps you want to try out some adult toys from Wet For Her, and you finally tell your partner this. Perhaps you tell them something you’re ashamed of from the past. Perhaps you tell them your greatest dreams and goals for your life. Anything you might have once kept secret could come out, and in this way, trust is built.
Remember Respect
No matter what happens, respect is something you must never forget. If your partner needs some time to be on their own, if they have questions that need answers, if they want to change plans you made together because they no longer feel comfortable after something you – or they – have done, then you need to respect that.
This is not always easy, especially if you want to keep trying in your relationship and they want to back off, at least for a while. However, the more you push, the less likely it is there will be trust, so you need to think about respect and do what you need to do regarding that. It will help immensely.
